If God wanted religion in government, why wouldn't He rule on His own?

I admit I'm not as smart as the average YA troll, but why do human beings think they need to defend God and His will, as they interpret it? Since God is supreme, all powerful, all knowing, He can handle things Himself. Forcing kids in school to say insincere, politically inspired prayers, or having lots of religion talk in presidential campaigns, and demands for Christian values in government...I just don't get it. People aren't God or gods. Does God really need politicians and school board members to do His work for Him?
