you can look on the web for a diagram depicting the genitalia differences between male and female. bedding wise the cotton wool whatever is good but i always liked to use it with pine shavings. you have to be very careful about introducing dwarf hamsters as the males especially can be aggressive sometimes. you can also get a small hamster wheel. they make little ones that would be his size.
